Our Lady of Candlemas, Our Lady of Blueberries, Our Lady of Planting. These are only some of the dozens of feasts venerating the Virgin Mary which you can find in the traditional Marian calendar. A new temporary exhibition in the National Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw presents figurines of the Virgin Mary selected from the Elżbieta Zajdel’s collection, which consists of 500 objects.

The beginnings of this extraordinary collector's passion began innocently - from a visit to one of the flea markets and the discovery of an old folk Mary's sculpture, which stands out among the mass of trinkets. Over time, the work on expanding the collection reached further. Elżbieta Zajdel began to learn new images of the Mother of God and related legends and cults. In addition to further searches, she also began to not only purchase the sculptures she found, but also to order the now-forgotten presentations of the Mother of God and at the same time gradually learn about folk sculptors, their philosophy of life and creation.
