"Translators of the World" – contest for students for a translation review
We invite students and doctoral students to participate in the second edition of "Translators of the World" contest for a translation review of a book nominated for our Award, which we organise together with the Faculty of Polish Studies of the Jagiellonian University and the Ryszard Kapuściński Research and Education Centre – foundation of the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies of the University of Warsaw.

The condition of participation in the "Translators of the World" contest is a presentation of original, self-written review of one of books nominated for the Ryszard Kapuściński Award for Literary Reportage 2016, which was written in other language than Polish and was translated into Polish language.

This year, the Jury decided to include in the contest for a translation review – apart from books nominated for the Award – one additional translation. We encourage to review following books:

from the English language:

“Capital: A Portrait of Delhi in the Twenty-First Century” (Delhi. Stolica ze złota i snu) by Rana Dasgupta, translated by Barbara Kopeć-Umiastowska, published by Czarne,

“The War is Dead, Long Live The War: Bosnia, the Reckoning” (Wojna umarła, niech żyje wojna. Bośniackie rozrachunki) by Ed Vulliamy, translated by Janusz Ochab, published by Czarne;

from the Spanish language:

Hunger (El Hambre / Głód) by Martín Caparrós, translated by Marta Szafrańska-Brandt, published by Wydawnictwo Literackie

and from the Italian language:

The Legend of the Sailing Mountains (La leggenda dei monti naviganti / Legenda żeglujących gór) by Paolo Rumiz, translated by Joanna Malawska, published by Czarne.

Presented contest work has to include a discussion and assessment of the translation of a reviewed book. Deadline for submitting works isTuesday, 25th April 2017, 11.59 pm.

Authors of best works will receive the awards founded by the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies of the University of Warsaw, Institute of Journalism and Social Communication of the University of Wrocław, the Faculty of Polish Studies of the Jagiellonian University and Stowarzyszenie Autorów ZAiKS.
