The final of the 8th edition of the Ryszard Kapuściński Award: Twelve events in three days
Here is what we have prepared this year for Ryszard Kapuściński fans and fans of the reportage: every day of the 8th Warsaw Book Fair (Warszawskie Targi Książki, WTK), 18-21 May, 2017, at the information desk of the "Zaczytana Warszawa" booth, you will be able to talk to experts about the work of our patron Ryszard Kapuściński, and about the books nominated by the jury for the Award. On Saturday (May 20th, National Stadium, Warsaw), during a Reportage Day of the WTK: there will be six author meetings, a discussion panel with nominated translators and presentation of the awards in two educational competitions: for pupils (for documentaries) and students (for translation review). On Sunday (May 21st): a morning with British writer Rana Dasgupta at the History Meeting House and in the evening - a gala at the Teatr Dramatyczny, where this year's laureates will be announced. And at the closing of the 8th edition - on Monday (May 22nd) at the Cervantes Institute - there will take place an author's evening with Martín Caparrós, one of the most eminent Latin American writers.

Saturday, May 20th

10:00 am -07:00 pm - Day of Reportage at the 8th Warsaw Book Fair

10:15 am -12:00 pm
A meeting with Polish finalists: Cezary Łazarewicz, author of the book “Leave No Traces. Grzegorz Przemyk's Case” („Żeby nie było śladów. Sprawa Grzegorza Przemyka”) (Wydawnictwo Czarne), led by Zbigniew Gluza (quarterly magazine “Karta”). A meeting with Aneta Prymaka-Oniszk, author of the reportage “Bieżeństwo-Exile 1915. Forgotten Refugees” („Bieżeństwo 1915. Zapomniani uchodźcy”) (Wydawnictwo Czarne). Hosted by Magdalena Kicińska.

During the meeting, prizes will be awarded in the "Mój Busz po polsku" competition.

12:15 pm - 02:00 pm
Saved in translation. The nominated translators: Barbara Kopeć-Umiastowska, Marta Szafrańska-Brandt, Joanna Malawska and Janusz Ochab talk with juror Mariusz Kalinowski.

During the meeting, prizes will be awarded in the translation review contest for students "Translators of the world".

A meeting with Ed Vulliamy, author of the reportage "The War is Dead, Long Live the War: Bosnia: The Reckoning” (“Wojna umarła, niech żyje wojna. Bośniackie rozrachunki”) (Wydawnictwo Czarne), with the book's translator Janusz Ochab, hosted by Miłada Jędrysik ("Przekrój").

A meeting with special guest: Paolo Rumiz, Italian writer and journalist, a friend of Ryszard Kapuściński, with Joanna Malawska, translator of his "Legend of sailing mountains" (Wydawnictwo Czarne), hosted by Anna Osmólska-Mętrak.

A meeting with Rana Dasgupta, author of "Capital: A Portrait of Delhi in the Twenty First Century” (“Delhi. Stolica ze złota i snu”) (Wydawnictwo Czarne), and the book’s translator Barbara Kopeć-Umiastowska hosted by Maciej Zaremba Bielawski ("Dagens Nyheter").

An evening with Martín Caparrós will be hosted by Magdalena Szkwarek (Center for Latin-American Studies at the University of Warsaw).
