Aleksander Gierymski "Żydówka z pomarańczami"

Aleksander Gierymski – 164th anniversary of the artist's birth.

Aleksander Gierymski's older brother was Maksymilian Gierymski. The younger artist was characteristic for a truly non-compromising approach to his artistic quest. Aleksander Gierymski was incessantly striving to reach the very top of perfection and, trying to achieve the ideal, he would paint his works anew again and again, and sometimes even destroyed his own creations.

When are birthdays of famous artists celebrated? The National Museum in Warsaw invites for a new series of events – meetings organized within the spaces of the institution, on days of particular masters' birth anniversaries, will be a chance provided for art lovers to take a closer look at lives of various artists, whose works are held in the collection owned by The National Museum. While concentrating on these selected show-pieces, we will get acquainted with some of the less known facts from the lives of each of the jubilarians. The meetings will be hosted by art historians: curators of the collections and collaborators of the Museum's Educational Division. Moreover, participants of the meetings will be also invited to visit Cafe Lorentz at The National Museum, where a special offer shall be prepared.
